OVERVIEW

This online course offers a unique experience that combines art, philosophy and spirituality, allowing students to immerse themselves in the rich tradition of Bharatanatyam while exploring the depths of Vedanta and Hinduism to enrich their personal understanding and transformation.

COURSE METHODOLOGY

The focus of the online course extends beyond technical and artistic skills, and is presented as an opportunity for Transpersonal Development. This classical Indian dance form is considered not only an artistic expression, but also a path to spiritual connection, personal transformation and self-realization through Sacred Art.

COURSE COMPONENTS

13 Theoretical Classes

Students will participate in online lectures covering various aspects of Bharatanatyam, including its historical context, associated mythology, and relevance to Hindu spirituality.

Deep Study of Vedanta and Hinduism

The course will include an in-depth study of the philosophical and spiritual concepts of Vedanta and Hinduism as they relate to Bharatanatyam. Students will explore how these teachings are reflected in dance and how they can apply these lessons to their spiritual quest and personal growth.

13 Bharatanatyam Practice Sessions

Students will learn and practice the technical fundamentals of Bharatanatyam, including the Group 2 basic steps known as “Nattu Adavu,” as well as mastery of “Samyta Hastas” (Mudras or two-handed gestures). They will also focus on the interpretation of emotions, or “Rasas,” through movement and facial expression.

Choreography dedicated to Ganesha

Students will work on a special choreography dedicated to the deity Ganesha, which will allow them to apply the techniques learned in a meaningful choreographic piece. This will help students connect their dance with spirituality and devotion.

Explore the fundamental philosophical principles of Hinduism that permeate every step of the Bharatanatyam Pure Dance. Analyze concepts such as dharma, karma, and the search for truth, and understand their relevance to dance, enriching your philosophical and spiritual perspective.

TECHNICAL BASICS

Learn the essential postures, hand movements (mudras) and footwork that form the foundation of this classical dance form, providing you with the technical skills needed to master Bharatanatyam.

THE ORIGIN AND LINEAGE OF THE BHARATANATYAM DANCE

We will explore the history of Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form from India. From its mythical origins to its evolution throughout history, you will dive into its timeline to understand its development. You will also discover the fundamental role of the Devadasis (servants of God) in the preservation and value of this dance.

DEVOTIONAL ART:
FIFTH VEDA, NATYA SHASTRA

The Natyashastra, an ancient dramaturgical treatise, established the foundations of dance through centuries of theatrical practice. Probably compiled in the 2nd century AD, this treatise presents a framework for dance as a tool for self-actualization. It provides detailed instructions for various aspects such as classes, rituals, stage space, costumes, makeup, student behavior, and mental states, among others.

THERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL AND ITS SACRED ELEMENTS

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the Bharatanatyam dance and discover its great therapeutic potential on the physical, emotional and energetic levels. Through this form of artistic expression, we will explore the sacred elements and the levels of transformation that lead to the awakening of consciousness.

In addition, in this program, we will delve into the study and deep knowledge of the philosophy of Hinduism, which is the basis of the Bharatanatyam dance. ​
