About
The theoretical-practical module "Introduction to Bharatanatyam Dance" is designed to offer a complete immersion in one of the oldest forms of Indian classical dance. Throughout this module, students will immerse themselves in a rich experience that combines the history, technique and spirituality inherent to this artistic discipline. The aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding of Bharatanatyam, not only as a dance, but as a practice that has been preserved and revered over millennia. The structure of the module contemplates both the academic study of dance and the bodily practice. As for the theoretical part, participants will study the historical origins of Bharatanatyam and its preservation over time, linking its importance in the context of the spiritual traditions of South India. At a technical level, the course will cover fundamental aspects that are the basis of this dance, such as the traditional postures known as Karanas, the basic steps called Adavus, the hand gestures called Hastas, and the ritual invocations and bows such as Slokam and Namaskaram. In addition, exercises designed to improve physical flexibility and emotional exploration through expressions, known in dance as Rasas, will be included. At the end of the module, participants will not only have acquired fundamental technical skills in Bharatanatyam, but will also have understood its deep spiritual and cultural meaning, allowing them to experience dance as a form of self-knowledge and transformation.
